The thermal water lily is the resort's symbol; in the park pond you see water lilies for free, next to the centre.
About the place
The thermal water lily (Nymphaea lotus var. thermalis) was described in 1789 by the botanist Pál Kitaibel and has been a protected natural monument since 1931. It grows in warm water; its natural home is Lake Pețea in Băile 1 Mai, which has nearly dried up because of thermal-water extraction.
In the central park of Băile Felix, on the path named after it, there is a fenced pond with water lilies, next to the square renovated in 2023. In summer the leaves cover almost the whole surface, and the white flowers open in the warm months. Entry is free.
Good to know
- Come between June and September, when the lilies flower.
- Don't throw anything into the water or lean over the fence.
- Combine the walk with the wooden church, 200 m away.
