It is the largest building on the square, and next to it stand the Kossuth statue and the busts of writers born in the town.
About the place
Salonta's old church stood inside the fort, protected by a stone wall and defensive towers. Today's Reformed church stands on the same site and is part of the listed Piața Libertății ensemble. It has a tall tower with a clock and a dome, and the central park surrounds it.
Next to the church is the bronze statue of Lajos Kossuth by András Tóth, unveiled on 30 June 1901. It was pulled down in 1920, kept for two decades in the Ciunt Tower and put back in 1940. To the right of the church is a small sculpture park: a full-length statue of János Arany and busts of István Sinka, Lajos Zilahy, György Kulin and István Kiss.
Good to know
- You can usually see the inside at the Sunday morning service.
- Look for the writers' busts on the right side of the church.
